Understand the differences between long-term care and retirement homes, the application process, costs and subsidies, dementia care, and what to expect when preparing for a move into care. 55+

Ideal for caregivers, families, and anyone planning ahead, this presentation offers a comprehensive overview of long-term care (LTC) in Ontario. After this presentation, participants will know about public and private care options, government-run facilities in Halton Region, costs and subsidies, and the types of services offered—including meals, programs, and room types.

The session will also address the application process, waitlists, and what to expect when preparing for a move.

A portion of the presentation will focus on dementia care, including the purpose of “locked units” and who they are designed for. We'll also explore emotional and cultural barriers that can affect decisions around LTC, offering guidance and support for those navigating this transition.

A Question-and-answer period will occur in the last 15 minutes of the hour.
