Virtual Room 1

Join Patrick Hunter, a local two-spirit Ojibway artist, for a virtual painting workshop that celebrates the Woodland art style. Material kits are provided as part of Community Conversations. Ages 8+.

Patrick Hunter is a two-spirit Ojibway artist, graphic designer, and entrepreneur from Red Lake, Ontario who currently resides in Toronto. He is best known for his paintings in the Woodland art style, but is also making a name for himself in the corporate world through artistic and graphic collaborations with RBC and BMO Banks, Ernst & Young, West Elm, and Staples Promotional Products to name a few.

During this virtual workshop Patrick will lead participants through a Woodland art style painting using materials provided for free by the library from the Community Conversations initiative. Alongside learning fundamental paint techniques, participants will learn the spiritual and historical significance of Woodland Art in Indigenous communities, the importance of mental health and healing through the arts and basic cultural competency.

How it Works:

  1. Register for the program in order to receive a free material kit.
  2. Kits will be available for pickup from Glen Abbey branch no sooner than seven (7) days prior to the program. Library staff will email participants when the kits are available.
  3. Join Patrick Hunter and OPL on Zoom to paint together! Anyone under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.
  4. Take a picture of your creation. Post it to social using the hashtag #oplcreationzone or email us at creationzone@oakville.ca
