This program will focus on ways to support the Ukrainian 2SLGBTQ+ Community through a moderated discussion.
As the war in Ukraine rages on, 2SLGBTQ+ communities are particularly vulnerable. Is the community being supported? What humanitarian efforts are reaching into the 2SLGBTQ+ communities? What can we do here to directly support the community?
Moderating a discussion on the situation in Ukraine for the 2SLGBTQ+ community will be Doug Kerr, Executive Director of the Dignity Network. Oakville Public Library and Doug will welcome Michelle Emson, co-founder of KyivPride Canada, and Andrii Zarytskyi, queer and trans advocate for and Subdivision Manager of the LGBT Association LIGA, who has recently arrived safe in Canada. We will also hear from Lenny Emson, Executive Director of KyivPride and currently in Ukraine, on the ground, supporting the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
This program is a part of OPL’s Community Conversations Series – OPL’s commitment to creating a community that celebrates diversity, belonging, addressing difficult conversations, and helping build connections.
