Join us for this author evening featuring Slava Pastuk, author of Bad Trips and Andrew Brobyn, author of Babble On, both published by Dundurn Press. 18+

Slava Pastuk was sent to prison in 2019 for a well-publicized drug smuggling conviction. Before that, he was a culture writer based in Toronto whose work has been featured on VICE, COMPLEX, CollegeHumor, and various other publications. Slava’s experience has given him a unique — and, at times, staggering — view of both the media and drug industries.

Andrew Brobyn is a poet and memoirist. His experiences involving mental health and addiction issues are a major focus of his writing. He lives in Toronto.

From a Toronto journalists' meteoric descent from acclaimed Vice magazine writer/reporter to being a drug smuggler in prison to A mid-level drug traffickers decade long post-acid trip journey to redemption, drugs take center stage with this unique pairing of authors sharing unique life stories.

A Different Drummer Books will be on hand to sell books.

About the branch

Central Branch is the largest of Oakville Public Library’s seven locations. Located in downtown Oakville, it spans three floors of adult and children’s collections, the local and family history collections in the Oakville Room, with spacious meeting and study spaces. Central Branch also serves as the library’s administrative headquarters and shares space with Oakville Galleries. Just steps from Sixteen Mile Creek and Lake Ontario, the branch offers scenic views and a welcoming environment for learning and community connection. With a new facility slated for 2028, the new Central Branch is set to become a landmark building for Downtown Oakville. Guided by community insight, the redesigned library branch will offer flexible and accessible spaces that celebrate Oakville’s history, support lifelong learning, and promote community connections.
